Os leitores mais assíduos deste blog sabem que no final de 2011 uma das previsões que fiz até ao final de 2013 foi que seria a Alemanha a abandonar o euro.
Ao que parece, antecipando essa eventualidade, a multinacional alemã Volkswagen (VW) começou recentemente a emitir obrigações cujos pagamentos aos credores poderão ser feitos na moeda que estiver em vigor depois do euro.
Não acreditam em mim? Vejam, então a página 66 deste PDF (está em inglês), em particular o parágrafo que a seguir transcrevo (saliento as partes as negrito):
References herein to a “Specified Currency” shall include any successor currency provided for by the laws in force in the jurisdiction where the Specified Currency is issued or pursuant to intergovernmental agreement or treaty (a “Successor Currency”) to the extent that payment in the predecessor currency is no longer a legal means of payment by the Issuer on the Notes [in the case of Notes issued by Volkswagen Leasing GmbH, Volkswagen Financial Services N.V. or Volkswagen Financial Services Japan Ltd. insert: or, in the event of payments under the Guarantee, by the Guarantor under the Guarantee].
E por que é que a VW faz isso? Porque precisa de se financiar, e porque sabe que alguns credores temem que se as obrigações forem denominadas em euros, estas valerão muito menos, caso a Alemanha abandone o euro.
